Acid Reflux is preventable. If you get a little education on the way a body works, you begin to realize that many of today’s chronic illnesses are preventable. Unfortunately, most doctors are not trained to think that way. It’s rather hard to grasp, most often, that doctors are essentially trained to medicate any patient who walks in the door. To bring about real health, it will take re-educating people on the way to lasting, honest health.

What is Acid Reflux?

Reflux means that something that should be flowing downward is instead moving in reverse. In the case of Acid Reflux, stomach acids are escaping from the stomach, which is built to deal with them, up into the lower esophagus, which is NOT built to deal with them. The problem centres on the condition of a sphincter valve at the bottom of the esophagus. When it is weak, it permits stomach acids to escape upward. The symptoms of this problem include heartburn, sour acid backing up into the mouth, bloating, hiccups and nausea. Those are just the mild symptoms. More serious ones include blood vomiting.

Doctors treat Acid Reflux with drugs that shut off the stomach acid pumps in the stomach. For example, Prilosec and Nexium may be prescribed. Well, there’s no way that any drug only affects one isolated body function. These drugs have been associated with bacterial infections, pneumonia, damage to kidneys and liver and stomach cancer.

The Role of Alkaline Water in Finding Relief and Healing

A body that is completely healthy and in balance will not develop this condition but many of us came to realize the right way to eat and how to avoid toxic exposures late in life. We may suffer the effects of those in early years when we were not so wise. In brief, alkaline water balances the pH of the intestines to the right level to keep down the growth of organisms you don’t want, like parasites and fungi. You might be interested to know that stomach acid itself does not do much to break down your food for absorption. Instead, stomach acid creates the ideal pH-environment for enzymes to do that work. It takes only about 20 minutes to do this job, so unless you’re eating a meal there is no concern about alkaline ionized water having anything but a positive effect on digestion.
